With proper care your Sage Jewelry can become a family heirloom.
Considerations for every day wear.
Sage Jewelry is durable and robust and is designed to be worn rather than kept in a jewelry box. If you, like many others, love your jewelry and wear it every day, here are some things to bear in mind.
Water
Sage Jewelry is waterproof. Precious metals and stones will not be damaged by getting wet or being submerged in water. However do not submerge jewelry with stones in chlorinated or bromine treated swimming pools and hot tubs. If exposed to these kinds of chemicals the stones can be damaged.
It is safe to wash your hands, shower and bathe while wearing Sage jewelry, however avoid applying soap across the surface of stones, as over time it can cause the stones to become discolored.
Chemicals
Many household chemicals can damage the precious stones in your jewelry. Cosmetics like lotion, fragrances, and hairspray contain chemicals that can permanently degrade and discolor turquoise and other stones. Harsh detergents can also damage the surface of your jewelry.
Wear and Tear
As you wear your jewelry, it’s surface finish will change over time. High points which are frequently touched will become bright and polished while recessed areas will darken and develop a patina. This is part of the inherent beauty of silver jewelry. Many people enjoy the rich patina that forms on silver, but if you wish to keep your jewelry bright and shiny, you can safely do so using a Sunshine polishing cloth available at Rio Grande.
Avoid bumping and banging your jewelry on hard surfaces. Items worn on the hands such as rings and bracelets see a lot of impacts over their lifetimes. While silver is a relatively soft and ductile metal, over time these repeated impacts will cause the metal to work harden and become more brittle, making it more prone to breaking.
Wearing jewelry while doing manual labor, lifting heavy objects, gardening, or playing sports greatly increases the risk of damage.
